Everyone is probably familiar with the conga drum, as it is such a popular instrument. It is of African origin, and is also very common in Latin music. It is becoming increasingly popular in North American music, as well. A person who plays this instrument is known as a conguero. The conguero either sits down to play, or else the drums are mounted on a rack so that they can be used from a standing position. Five main strokes can be made on the conga drum, each making a different sound. As you surely know, this instrument is exciting to listen to – especially with a conguero who knows what he or she is doing!
